How does Shopback work?

The model is actually quite simple. Looking at the picture itself, What Shopback does is sign up with each business affiliate programs and earn a percentage from your purchase.

Once you click through their affiliate links, they can track your purchase and give you a cut from the commission. Sounds like a win/win situation, doesn’t it?

With that being said, let’s start learning how to use this simple website to start saving and earning money!

How to get started

Make sure you are in the correct region as it affects all your purchases. Once you are in the correct website, click sign up and sign up using your Email and Password.

At this point of writing, Facebook connect doesn’t seem to be working properly as of now.

After signing up, the next step is to verify your Email. You should receive an email that looks somewhat similar to the picture below.

After which, you should set up your account under ‘Accounts Setting’ to fill in your personal and payment details. This is where you can choose to either cash out your earnings to your local bank, or to Paypal if you choose.

How to use Shopback

If you have looked through the website for a bit, Shopback actually combines a combination of discounts, deals and cash back all into one site. Using these features are very simple as well.

Let’s take a look at how to use the website with an example. I want to shop at Groupon, so I will be clicking through the Groupon tab to access all the deals here.

From here, you can scroll down to take a look at the current deals and promotions in the merchant’s shop. When you find a certain deal, just click the ‘Shop Now’ button and you will be redirected. For my case, I will be directed to Groupon’s page once I click the button. After which, I will be shopping as per normal on Groupon.

Some points to note

1. It is important to know that you should stay on the browser that you clicked through in order to claim the cashback. Do not change different browsers while shopping (ie. From Firefox to Chrome) as they are using cookies to track your transaction (In order to award you the cash back!).

2. Do not use Incognito mode as this may cause some problems and you may not be able to qualify for the cash backs.

3. If you are buying a large quantity of items, what you can do first is go to the merchant’s website and add everything to cart. After that, go through Shopback and click the ‘Shop Now’ button and then just go straight to payment.

If you follow these points, you should be looking at a seamless experience everytime you use Shopback. I have not encountered any problem ever since I started shopping through the website.

After a few hours to a few days, you should receive an Email informing you that the cash back to your account is successful. Alternatively, you can check your account in order to see if the transaction and cash back was successful.

Cashing Out

Once you hit the minimum cash out of $10.01, you are eligible to cash out your earnings. Click on your ‘total earnings’ in order to access the cash out page.

You will see a few boxes in this page. These are:

Pending: Once you get your cash back, your balance will be under this category. This is to prevent people from buying and cancelling their orders after they get their cash back. After awhile, this amount should clear to the redeemable tab

Redeemable: Once your balance clears, it will be under this category. You can then cash out your balance if you have at least $10.01 redeemable (Not including Bonus) in your account.

Bonus: You will get money under this category for various things. For signing up with an account using my link, you will get $5 from the start. Shopping through Shopback for the first time will award you another $5 bonus. Referring your friends also award you $5 after their first purchase. You will get this amount together with your redeemable amount.

Paid out: Your total accumulated amount that you have cashed out from the website so far.

Total Earnings: Add up all the balance from the four categories and you will get your total earnings.

To redeem your earnings, go to the redeemable tab and click request payout.

Referrals

You can refer a friend to join under your referral link for great benefits! If you get your friend to sign up under your link, they would immediately get $5 (or equivalent depending on which site you use) in their account. If they sign up without a referral code, their account would start with $0.

Is this legit?

I have just started using the site so I have not actually gotten a cash back yet. However, I am able to trust this site as their model of business is easy to understand. You are just getting a cut of their commission that the businesses paid them.

Besides that, Shopback is actually a registered business in both United States and Singapore. This Singapore start up has been featured around the web as well. They actually have investors and raised quite a huge sum of money in order to implement the various functions of the website.

What I love about Shopback

• Easy interface to access the latest deals and promotions. Click through the button and you can qualify for cash back after shopping.

What I did not like Shopback

• Virtually nothing! It’s really all benefits as you are getting paid back slightly just for doing your normal online shopping.

Shopback is actually my first review on this website that does not make you money, but rather reward you for doing something you have most likely been already doing before. This is why I really love Shopback and other similar Shopback websites.

While this website is catered more to the users in the Asia region, it is also possible for users outside these regions to use Shopback too. With that being said, I would be reviewing other websites that provide similar services to Shopback as well.
